Memorial Day and the Rosecrans National Cemetery

A few Senior Couples were able to participate with Veteran Families and other volunteers in placing a flag on each of the 50,000 plus military graves in the Rosecrans National Cemetery on Point Loma.  It was a memorable and reverent event!  Place the flag, read the name, and salute or place hat on heart.  Several graves just read US Solider. (see a few of the pics).

Brendda who was baptized two months ago is in Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. She wrote us a nice letter and in part told us she feels surrounded by her church family there.  The Senior Military Relations Missionary couple there and others have been great ministers to this great sister! (see pic)

April joined the church at Easter time this year.  As Senior Missionaries we can leave the mission boundaries to attend the Newport Beach Temple.  We were able to take April (center sister in photo) and her friend and fellow shipper Emma to the temple.  The ward family history folks helped April prepare some of her family names to be baptized for.  It was a great day!!  We also visited Deseret Book in Newport Beach for a keepsake necklace and cool recommend cover.  April is planning to help with the San Diego Temple Open House.

It is a great thing to see ward members jump in and minister!!  Emily in our home ward in Star helped connect us with her Texas friends. Their son Luke is in the Navy and had just arrived on the island of Coronado.  Coronado is in the Point Loma Ward, it is just across the bay. (see pic of San Diego from Coronado) So it is a short swim or a longer drive around through San Diego to get to church.  Luke's mother and brother came for a visit (see pic).  That Sunday we were able to introduce Luke with a Navy family that live on Coronado.  They give Luke a ride every Sunday in their minivan full of young children.  Luke says he was raised with brothers and enjoys the noise.  Ministering and fellowshipping is the heart of living the gospel.

We were able to complete the requirements to volunteer at the USO.  The USO runs an airport lounge where service members can relax and get something to eat while they are coming or going from assignments.  The Marine Corps has a training base in San Diego.  New recruits fly in every Monday and wait at the USO for their drill sergeant to arrive and change their life as they know it!  The USO also supports pre-deployment events and welcomes Ships and Subs on their return.  It is fun to be with the service members.

The Zone we serve in provides service to the San Diego Parks Department every month.  We show up with a group of 20 to 40 missionaries and the parks department saves a hard project they need accomplished for our group.  They really appreciate our 3 hours of effort. (see pic).

It's super fun being a senior missionary.  Every day looks a little different.  We see missionary miracles everyday.  The Lord is hastening His work.  We are so grateful to be a part!!!
