Life is full of MIRACLES!
Sending lots of love and lots of hugs from beautiful, sunny, San Diego! We are sooo blessed to be here! What an exciting and diverse and rewarding mission to be assigned to! Every day brings new experiences and adventures! The California San Diego Mission is a baptizing mission! The young Elders and Sisters are on fire with their enthusiasm and love for the Savior! It's such a blessing to get to serve with them!
Thanks to each of you for your prayers! We had a beautiful miracle happen!!!! WE GOT OUR BASE PASSES! Now we have access to the base that we are assigned!!! We were blessed to get the fun and vivacious lady (casually dressed with sparkly dangling earrings) at the pass issuing office and not the gruff military uniform clad gentleman! We bonded over the earrings! We truly felt like she adopted us and helped us get all the things necessary to get the passes. She even gave me a big hug when we left! New bff! We definitely acknowledge the Lord's hand in getting this accomplished. With the current situation in Iran, security has tightened. We needed base access because part of our assignment is to work with the chaplains and help support them and build a good working relationship with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We had faith that we would get access because it's the Lord's work. He was definitely instrumental in getting this done.
We got to meet one of our chaplains and invite him to the San Diego temple open house. He is amazing! He was so kind and we had a really nice visit. He mentioned that he used to live in Arizona and got to attend a temple open house there. We are looking forward to working with him. Having base access also gets us a great view of the amazing ships that come and go. (see pic of a 700 ft + long supply ship sometimes called an oiler)
We love meeting the young single sailors who are stationed here. We are fortunate to be able to give them rides to church or Young Single Adult Family Home Evening activities. The YSA program in the area is strong. It's exciting!
We had a ton of fun at our zone p-day activity. It was great hanging out with 40 young missionaries at a beautiful park by the beach. The young missionaries have a NO SAND rule! So Elder Peterson cooked burgers while the youngers played Kubb (which Elder P. brought from home) and spikeball and volleyball. We love THESE missionaries! (a couple pics included)
We have lots of opportunities for service! We are trying to get all the requirements done to volunteer at the USO. We both got California Food Handlers permits! That was a hoot. I haven't taken a written exam for a while. It was stressful . . . and yes I got a higher score than someone else I know. (I earned it. I stressed more and took better notes!) HA! Hopefully we can start volunteering there soon.
Every six weeks there are transfers in the mission. All the weekly mission meetings are scheduled around this rotation. This week ended our first 6-week transfer. The young missionaries are always so anxious about the changes. It was fun to watch. I can't believe it's been 6 weeks. Time is FLYING by so fast!
In our last email we forgot to give a shoutout to our friend Doug in our Star Idaho Ward! Doug was baptized on April 11th. We got to watch by the miracle of ZOOM! We love you Doug and are so happy for you!!!
Brendda (who has joined the Navy) was baptized on conference weekend and is a great missionary. Her sister-in-law was baptized yesterday and Brendda gave a powerful baptism talk. She has brought her mother up from Brazil to stay with her children as she starts her training. We will now get to be working with Brendda's mom while she is away. (See pic of their family)
Thanks again for the love and prayers! Life is good! We have been blessed with meeting amazing people, watching testimonies grow, and lots of daily miracles. Look for the daily miracles in your life and be grateful! Love to you all!
